Enjoy Landskrona’s rich cultural life.
Landskrona has a rich history. The town received its charter in 1413, when it was intended to become Skåne’s new capital. For a long time Landskrona was a military centre built up around the natural deep harbour and the strong fortress of Landskrona Citadel, construction of which started in 1548. The Citadel is very well preserved and beautifully framed by moats and the large Town Park.
Situated in a part of the Town Park is Sweden’s oldest surviving area of allotment gardens. In many of the small allotments there are houses that go back to the start of the twentieth century. The floral splendour, the architecture, and the wealth of variation in this oasis in the middle of the town makes it a great attraction. The only allotment garden museum in Sweden can be found here – the Rothoff family’s allotment – with a cottage preserved in its original state from 1903.
Landskrona has a rich cultural life, with one of the country’s largest city museums and the beautiful art gallery, gently embedded in the verdure of the Town Park.
Town-centre commerce has flourished in recent years, and Landskrona has become an exciting shopping town with a wide range of goods on offer.
In the middle of the Öresund is the island of Ven, which is a very popular tourist attraction. The easiest way to get to the island is by ferry from Landskrona harbour. Ven offers you a number of historical and cultural experiences. The most important sight is the Tycho Brahe monuments, with a museum, Renaissance garden, and play park. Ven also has a great many galleries, craftsmen, and artists. In the village of Backafall there is a newly founded whisky distillery and a bar with one of Europe’s best assortments of whisky.
